BeesForLife, like the town councils in the Atlantic Pyrenees, supports the work of Collectiluttefrelon64-40

BeesForLife is creating and setting up a platform dedicated to the action of this collective, which is in the process of involving more than 20 communes in the fight against the Asian hornet by taking the initiative of organising the spring trapping of Asian hornet nest foundresses. As not all the foundresses will be trapped, this action will be followed up during the season by the use of the Asian hornet nest notification tool, so that any hornet nests seen later can be destroyed.

You can find the platform dedicated to the actions of the trap management collective (trap monitoring) by following this link or copying the associated QR code

For individuals and beekeepers, you can access the trap monitoring tool directly by following the links below

Collectif de lutte contre le frelon asiatique 26th February 2024

Message to all the Mayors of the Basque Country.

Dear Mayor

As you know, a collective to combat the Asian hornet has recently been formed.

In view of the proliferation of the Asian hornet and its impact on biodiversity, the economy and personal safety, we are organising a spring trapping campaign throughout the Basque Country.

One of the most effective ways of combating the problem is to trap the founding queens in the spring, when they are most vulnerable. Each queen has the potential to found a colony of several thousand hornets.

The date of 9 March has been chosen to launch this major campaign.

We need your help to communicate, inform and support our action in the general interest, and if possible to finance the purchase of Tap Trap traps.

The Lafitte garden centre (Anglet, France) is offering them at cost price. You can order them directly using the attached order form.

The spring trapping period lasts only 8 weeks, from the end of February to the beginning of May.

In order to be more effective, we are looking for "hornet referents" in each commune, who will be responsible for :

-map the nests destroyed or not in 2023

-set traps on communal land in accordance with the protocol set out in the attached flyer.

Ideally, the hornet referents would be a beekeeper, a local authority official, a hunter or a concerned citizen.

Here are the documents you will need for this communication:

-A flyer explaining trapping and how to make traps.

-A PowerPoint presentation to accompany our speech at a public meeting.

- An order form for Tap Trap

For the "awareness-raising and trap distribution event on 9 March", you can also ask your leisure and after-school centres to prepare a banner and/or make traps.

We will be happy to help. For more information, please contact your centre.

We look forward to your active participation in this fight and thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely

The Collective to Combat the Asian Hornet
